Motivation For Runners

You need to run BUT

IMG_1963When it comes to exercise, why do we even think twice about whether we should do it or not? Because we allow ourselves to fixate on how we feel NOW. Whether it’s how we feel physically, or how we feel emotionally, we let those feelings determine our actions. Yet, if we were to just focus on how we feel when we are FINISHED, I believe our actions would change drastically.

If you have a goal, let all your actions (what you eat, what you do, what you sacrifice) all be to get you one step closer to that goal. I think our problem is we do too much thinking, and too little doing. Next time you think about whether you should workout or not, you are waisting precious time pondering the inevitable – so just do it! You know it has to get done eventually if you want to reach your goal.

  1. I can’t remember who posted this originally but it helps me to remember this: After you go for a run, you will not regret having done it. But, if you choose not to go, you will always feel bad about it afterwards.

  2. I run every day and love it. Today I’m sick. Ugh. Still, I’m going to get on the treadmill because I KNOW I’ll feel better when it’s done. Bonnie, I am so glad you are here for me to stalk every day. Haha. You have changed my mindset in many ways and I appreciate you so much. This week I’m working on not eating out at all and not undoing my workout with what I do eat. The scale hasn’t budged in months and I know it’s because I undo my workout each day with food choices. Praying for focus today….. 🙂

    • You are cute. I’m honored to have you “stalk” me 🙂 haha! It’s funny, I just told Faith (below) that I LOVE to run, I just hate to start. I think that will be my next fitness motivational pic. It’s so funny, but it’s true. As for your scale, I highly recommend counting calories (I use the LoseIt app). It will help you reach your goal SO much faster. Even me, being a fitness professional, needs to do it if I want results. Counting calories isn’t for everyone – and it isn’t NEEDED for everyone. BUT for people like me, who likes to eat VOLUME, needs the accountability to keep me on track. 😉

  3. My motivation is signing up for races so I am forced to train. Also I gauge my success by the fit of my clothes, I try not to weigh myself more than once every month or two. When my clothes get looser I know I’m on the right track. And thanks to you Bonnie, I keep two key phrases in my head at all times.
    1. Never eat in one sitting what you can’t burn off in one workout.
    2. Never go more than two days in a row without working out.
    It’s true that we don’t make enough time for ourselves, and when we do it’s usually to relax and unwind rather than getting out and exercising. As a mom who has a genetically enhanced daughter (DS) I am teaching/showing her that exercise is fun. She has always been an active kid, and now at the age of 6 she LOVES to run with me, play t-ball, soccer and walk the dog. It’s important that we set a good example for our kids and others around us. Anyone can do it, you just have to want it.

  6. I love quotes like this. It’s a great feeling and a great sense of accomplishment when you push beyond your means. For me it’s running.
