Change Your Body, Exercise Your Ears
This blog is dedicated to the lost, confused, discouraged, overwhelmed, helpless and hopeless. If you are wanting to get fit but don’t know where to start, you will when you’re done reading this blog.
Year after year I see past failures turn into today’s successes. I see people who have failed every diet plan and workout program eventually succeed. Why? What exactly happens inside our brain remains somewhat a mystery, but here’s where I think it all begins.
It all starts with your ears. You can go to church Sunday after Sunday for YEARS and, suddenly on one particular Sunday – BAM! you change. It’s not like “the message” changed – YOU changed for the message. The difference is you were listening (really listening), you were seeking the truth, you were ready to hear it and you were ready to apply it. However, if you never showed up to hear the message, the message would have never had the chance to impact you.
Can You Hear Me Now?
This is exactly how fitness is. The truth is all over the freakin’ place. It’s not like getting fit is a big fat secret. The problem is, many people aren’t seeking the truth, they aren’t ready to change, they aren’t listening, and/or they aren’t believing it for themselves, so they tune it all out.
Sure, you may believe it can work for someone else, but that’s not the fitness truth. The fitness truth is it works for everyone – period. Unless you have one of the most rare diseases known to mankind, you too can benefit if you would listen and believe enough to act on it.
“You Talkin’ To Me?”
Maybe you are ‘deaf’ to me. Maybe you’ve been waiting on a different message. Maybe you were hoping for a ‘miracle’. Or, maybe you just haven’t really been listening because you think you ‘know it all’. Maybe you’re just too lazy to do anything. Maybe you aren’t quite miserable enough the way you are. Maybe you are so attached to the lifestyle you have now you are scared to give it up. Maybe you’ve gotten comfortable and complacent. Maybe you’ve been so focused on what you have to let go of, you never thought about what you’d gain. Whatever the case, they can all impair your hearing.
TO THE FITNESS NEWBIE: Listen, my message isn’t going to change. The only thing that will change is the story I wrap my message in, in hopes I will break through one day. Subscribe to my blog. If you’ll keep listening, I’ll keep preaching. Someday, I’ll get through – then the rest of my blogs will hopefully help keep you on track. 🙂
